How to Apply

Collect your letters of support, your personal statement, the description of your proposed research, and submit your application via the application form.

Who is eligible to apply?

Eligible applicants include YSM residents, fellows, and faculty as well as those interested in mentored research at YSM with an identified Yale mentor. Applicants must have a doctoral degree. This degree program embraces diversity and inclusion across multiple dimensions such as race, ethnicity, gender, sex, and age.

How do I apply?

Step 1: Prepare all of your necessary documents and information:

  1. The track to which you are applying
  2. Title of your proposed project
  3. Personal statement that describes your academic goals, career plans, and the role of the MHS in achieving those goals
  4. Research plan with the background, significance, and question you plan to address and a brief overview of the methods you will employ. Cite relevant literature. Two pages, not including references
  5. Name of primary mentor
  6. Names of the members of your mentorship committee. Three members are required, with at least one outside of your primary program
  7. Letter from your primary mentor that describes your qualifications, mentorship plans, and a commitment to your professional development through the MHS program
  8. Letter from your division chief or chair confirming their support for your enrollment, protected time, and source of financial support for tuition
  9. CV Part 1
  10. Optional: CV part 2

Step 2: Apply

Once you have all the required documents and information collected, the application will take between five and eight minutes to complete. You will need to upload all documents through the application portal.

You will indicate the sources and amounts of tuition support in the application portal.

Note that the online application form must be completed in one sitting; it cannot be saved.

Acceptance Notification

  • Applicants will receive an email with notification of their acceptance in early April.

How are acceptance decisions made?

Each MHS director chairs the Selection Committee for that track. Committee members thoroughly review all applications and meet to determine acceptances.

Tuition and funding sources to help cover costs

Tuition

$49,700/year

Grants

Tuition can be charged to training grants at allowable limits.

YSM Scholarships

YSM scholarships will be available to assist with tuition. Please indicate on the application if you would like to be considered for a scholarship.
