Biography
Dr. Michelle M. Maeng is an Assistant Professor at the Yale School of Medicine. She is a board-certified ophthalmologist with subspecialty training in oculofacial plastic, reconstructive, and orbital surgery.
Dr. Maeng received her undergraduate degree at Boston University on a Presidential Scholarship. There, she received the Twiness Award, given to those who exemplify service, loyalty, thoughtfulness, and excellence of scholarship. After receiving her medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine, she completed her general surgery internship at Weill Cornell Medicine. Dr. Maeng completed her ophthalmology residency at the Edward S. Harkness Eye Institute at Columbia University Medical Center, where she served as Chief Resident and was awarded the Golden Needle Driver for surgical excellence. During that time, she was given the Humanitarian Award by Women in Ophthalmology for her non-profit work in Kenya. Dr. Maeng completed a two-year fellowship sponsored by the prestigious American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS) with renown surgeons, Drs. David Tse and Thomas Johnson, at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, consistently ranked as the #1 eye hospital in the USA.
Dr. Maeng’s clinical and research interests span the breadth of oculofacial plastic surgery for both pediatric and adult populations. She is an expert in orbital tumors, thyroid eye disease, bulging eyes, orbital decompression, cancers of the eyelids and orbit, blepharoplasty, ptosis repair (drooping eyelids), correction of eyelid malposition (entropion, ectropion, retraction), facial trauma and reconstruction, lacrimal outflow obstruction, as well as surgical management of intracranial hypertension (optic nerve sheath fenestration).
On her free time, Dr. Maeng loves being active in the outdoors and spending time with her family.
